DIY Holiday Decor From Pinterest

To get you more into the holiday spirit, we decided to share some of our favorite holiday decor DIY ideas. These are all simple and affordable ways to decorate your house. Not only are these perfect for the holiday season, they are versatile enough to use for all of winter!

1. We LOVE the glam look of an ornament wreath. They are much classier and more versatile than a typical wreath.  You can customize it to any color scheme you want! All stores sell bulk ornaments so you don't need to search for individual items to add. Make one for Christmas and one for the winter season!

2. Move over paper cut outs, popsicle stick snowflakes are taking your place! As cute as paper snowflakes may be, the look of wooden stick ones are much more mature. We love the shabby chic look of the wood, but also think painting them or even adding sparkle would be fab! And, as one of the tutorials suggests, why stop at just snowflakes? There are plenty of other holiday or winter themed decor you can easily make using popsicle sticks and glue!

3. Obsessing over the mason jar trend, or simply feeling crafty? Well, we say yes to both and thus love mason jar snow globes. You can put whatever you want inside depending on the theme of your house for the holidays. These also make awesome and affordable stocking stuffers, house warming presents, or secret santa gifts!

4. We have seen super glittery and glam artwork all over the place. Although they are so pretty, they are so pricey! Why not make your own glitter deer canvas? Not only will you be saving lots of money, no one will have the same one as you (but everyone will all want to know where you got yours from!) You can also make canvases to match with holiday themed phrases to sparkle up the whole room. Not only is this a perfect holiday decoration, but you can make these to last year round by putting favorite quotes or words instead! This is also another great gift idea.

Secret Santa Inspiration

The holidays are right around the corner, and you've certainly committed to at least one Secret Santa gift exchange. Seemingly so, you are now in the market for a Relatively-Thoughtful-Yet-Inexpensive gift. So-- we put together some inspiration for you!

Envy's Secret Santa Gift Guide Under $15.00

Everyone living in Evanston needs at least a few pairs, so even if the gift receiver already has one pair, she will not be upset to have another. Besides, we just got a shipment of charcoal, brown, and burgundy, and she doubtfully has them all. They're one-size-fits-all and therefore a no-brainer.

2. Leg Warmers: $13.98

Simple: because they're a cute and everyone loves them. Wear them over leggings (shown above) or tuck them into tall boots so the top peeks out. We even have some with lace trim!

3. Infinity Scarves $11.98 - $16.98

You can't go wrong with this gift-- scarves are one-size and loved by all.  Envy definitely has the best selection of unique scarves within the $15 spending limit.

This may not be as universal as the others, but to the right person, this is going to be an amazing an thoughtful gift!

We have 3 colors available: Rose Gold, Gold, and Silver. Each necklace is on a 16" chain, so it is the perfect dainty length to wear daily.

5. Lilly Pulitzer!
Usually, Lilly items would be a little over the Secret Santa budget-- but right now all Lilly items in-store are 30% Off!!

Koozies are now $4.20
Notebooks are $7.00
Tumblers are $11.20
USB Charging cables are $12.60
And if you want to splurge a little over budget, Large agendas are only $19.60

BONUS:
Envy sells gift bags!!!
They're really cute and super inexpensive-- most gifts mentioned above can fit into the smallest size for $1.48. Tissue paper is included, and we'll even wrap it all up for you!

Let the gift giving commence!

Top 3 Reasons to Shop Small this Holiday Season

For retailers like us, we have already started planning and prepping for our busiest season: the time when YOU shop for the ones you love most.

Envy owner Kristi explains the top reasons you should shop local this holiday season:

1. Shop with your Friends
I've been lucky enough to help many of my customers over and over-- I know their taste, their lifestyle, their body type, and their price point. Or, if I don't know you personally, chances are I've assisted your neighbor, daughter, co-worker, etc.

From the customer's perspective, however, it's more than just building a personal connection with sales associates; it's about convenience. It is so much easier to shop with someone that already 'gets' you. Holiday shopping can be a headache, but not when you're shopping efficiently in stores that already know how to help you.

Even more, holiday returns are annoying, but chances are, the same employee that helped you pick out the gift item will be working *if* the item comes back to be returned. Last Christmas, I helped a husband put a whole outfit together for his wife. So sweet! When she came back with the entire gift still wrapped in Envy tissue paper (wrong size, darn!), I thought, 'This is so fun putting a face to the gift!' And I was able to help her get the correct items in less than 5 minutes.

2. Diversity of Products
Local businesses don't have to stock their shelves with products to reach a "mass market." Instead, we pick products for our local audience. For example, the two most popular items in our store right now are Chicago Flag necklaces and Fleece Lined Leggings. Obviously, these items are specific and regional, but we sell hundreds of each item in our Evanston store.

But it goes beyond niche-y products. You ask for sweaters, leg warmers, infinity scarves? We run to the phone and make sure our buyers order it. Because it's what YOU want (and need-- let's be real, it's freezing here), not what someone in L.A. or Dallas wants to buy. The benefit of shopping local is we listen to you when we fill our stores so you can purchase exactly what you are looking for.

3. Help us create jobs and invest in our community!
Without a doubt, the best part of owning a small business is connecting with the community that supports us. We hire local residents and college students who are active in the community, and we support their local charities, schools, and events. For example, in the past year, your support has allowed us to contribute to Evanston Township High School, Northwestern University Dance Marathon, Relay for Life, Delta Gamma Sorority, Kappa Delta Sorority, and a handful of other charities and fundraising events.  You are able to patronize the shops that support your causes, and that means YOU have a direct impact on your community. That's pretty cool!

This is a feel-good post for us! We have been blessed with a community filled with local support, and we can't wait to help you shop this holiday season for your loved ones :)
